Graphics and Visuals

When I first started the research for this specific module, I was really excited! I would consider myself a creative person, and I love like learning new things that I can implement into my learning and eventually my teaching! I really wanted to just jump right in, but I couldn’t considering there were so many options to choose from and I knew each would be completely different.

Starting off, I read about Piktochart and Canva. Personally, I liked both. Picktochart does a great job of giving templates for creating infographics. Infographics are visual images of charts and diagrams used to represent certain data or information and me in the future becoming a science teacher could be really beneficial! I also read into Comics In Education. This one was quite interesting considering it explained more than just how to create one, but also how you can implement it into your teaching/classroom. It also gave options to read pieces about “The Top 10 comics For Teaching Social Justices And Global Perspectives”, which was a great read! The last two sites I observed are beneficial as well. They both deal a lot with making comics which I think can open up ones creativity could also allow students to retain information a little better.

So, considering I want to be a secondary science teacher, after searching all the various sources, I stuck with Piktochart. I’m currently in an Environmental Science class, so I decided to make a chart on what I’m learning. I love this website! It’s almost like a simpler version of Excel. The graphics on here are great as well. You can even implement maps and videos! This site is also extremely easy to navigate around, so it’d be very student friendly. It’s a handy site, and you can sign up with Google or Facebook, or even just create an account.

Below is a picture of what I have created. I’m able to put it in present mode which is very beneficial and would be less distracting.  I also found out that you can share and publish this work right on the site and most of it is free unless you want to get way more technical with charts and downloading. I wouldn’t have to, just because I’m not going to be dealing with major numbers and I’d just be presenting it to my students as well as my students presenting it to me.
